Have a Drink for Breakfast

Saturday October 15, 2005
This thick, rich drink is very similar to a hot cereal such as grits or cream of wheat. It is filling, satisfying and delicious. Although it is often the preferred beverage to go with Tamales, it is also consumed during the holiday season when the weather gets a little cooler. In the streets of Mexico you will find women stirring large pots of the beverage and selling it by the cup. Atole is also popular for Los Dias de las Muertas (Day of the Dead) and Dia de las Madres (Mother's Day.) Make up a batch and impress your friends and family with this traditional Mexican drink. It is also a great recipe to serve on Thanksgiving and through the holidays.
