Pan de Muerto- "Bread of the Dead"

Wednesday October 4, 2006
Pan de Muerto During Day of the Dead festivities this airy and slightly sweet Pan de Muerto is enjoyed by young and old alike. The bread is usually a round shape and extra dough is used on top to fashion bone shapes across it. The "bones" are often decorated with brightly colored sugars to bring attention to them. The bread is used on altars prepared for the spirits of the dead so they can have some sustenance for the long trip. You can enjoy this tradition yourself by baking it at home and filling your home with the aroma of freshly baked bread.
