Mexican Beer Cocktail- The Michelada

Wednesday January 3, 2007
In Mexico it's always been popular to enjoy a beer with a squeeze of lime and a dash of salt. There are also recipes for a beer with not only lime and salt but other seasonings such as soy sauce and hot chile sauce. It is called a Michelada and is recently gaining popularity outside of Mexico. There are many recipes, but the best ones stick close to the original ingredients. Micheladas should always include salt and lime juice, from there the ingredients vary to include other items such as Maggi sauce, black pepper or worchestshire sauce.

I’ve had many Michelada’s in the Monterrey, MX area and believe the best recipe includes: Maggi sauce, worchestshire sauce, Tabasco sauce, and fresh sqeezed lime juice put over a few ice cubes in a salt rimmed glass. Just stir and add beer for a great summer thirst quencher!
