Bizarre Foods of Mexico

Chapulines Each country on the planet has it's own unique culinary offerings that other cultures find strange, odd or just plain weird. In Morrocco you may enjoy grilled calf brain and in the Phillipines, balut- a boiled duck egg with an actual baby duck inside. These foods may seem bizarre to other cultures, but it is part of their daily diet. In the United States we consume shrimp and pork regularly but some cultures find them to be distasteful. So in an effort to introduce you to some of Mexico's unusual foods, (including the chapulines or grasshoppers pictured at right) I have put together a weekly "Bizarre Foods of Mexico" newsletter that highlights some unique foods that you may think are weird, but in Mexico it's just lunch!

First of all these foods are’nt part of their daily diet in Mexico. Maybe they belong more to a specific place in Mexico and are rarely eaten in other parts. The grasshoppers for example, are more like street vendor food for the curious ( i tried them before in mex. city) Many Mexicans themselves dont eat these ” weird food” on the daily basis to say the least, these meals arent always on the popular side either. However, depending on where you’re at they may be more frequent consumption of these “weird but tasty food”. :)
