champurrado.jpgDuring the holidays such as Posadas, Christmas or Candlemas, try a mug of Champurradowhich is a thick, rich beverage using Mexican chocolate and sometimes flavored with a tiny bit of anise. Mexican chocolate adds a rich chocolate flavor and cannot be substituted with other chocolates. It is thickened slightly with masa but not quite as thick as Atole, but both are sweetened with piloncillo which is a Mexican sugar. It is a perfect start to a chilly winter morning.
