Tecate was first produced by a locally operated brewery in Tecate, Baja California, near the border of California in the United States. It is the largest brewery in Baja California and in 1956 it was acquired by Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma a large company based in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico that operates seven brewing plants throughout Mexico, including the one in Tecate. Tecate is popular all over Mexico as well as the U.S. and is often enjoyed with a squeeze of lime and a pinch or two of salt.
