Definition: A tortilla chip is a tortilla that has been cut into wedges and then fried until crispy. They are sometimes called "Corn chips" which are actually a different kind of chip entirely. Corn chips are made from corn that has been processed and then shaped into a chip and fried. A couple of examples of a corn chip would be Fritos or Doritos. When a Mexican recipe calls for "tortilla chips" make sure they are of the fried tortilla variety and not a corn chip.
